Researchers at NC State University have been awarded a four-year, $4.2 million grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to advance their ongoing GenX Exposure Study. The project tracks over 1,000 residents in North Carolina’s Cape Fear River Basin to investigate the long-term health impacts of historical exposure to PFAS and PFEA chemicals in drinking water. This new phase will specifically focus on identifying metabolic risks—such as abnormal cholesterol levels and obesity—while continuing to share lifetime exposure estimates directly with affected communities.
